TITLE: Plasticity and Resistance to Deformation During Forging

ABSTRACT: The author discusses the methods of S.I. Gub1c-in (Ref 1)
and A. Gelejt (Ref 4) for calculating the "shaping
resistance" and concludes that this value alone does not
give adequate information on the resistance of a metal to
plastic deformation during forging.and that additional
technological tests are required for determining its
ductility. However, the values of the "shaping resistance"
are useful for valculating the energy consumption (weight
of the forging hammer) and for determining the forging
temperature range. There are 2 figures and 5 references,
of which 3 are Czech and 2 Soviet.

On the basis of experience With 765 patients over 70 yr. of age it] whom rather
profound surgical operations vmre pci-formcd, the general problems of geriatric
surgery are discussed. The mortalities for various operations are given. I'lic most
frequent causes of death in descending order were: (i) heart failure, (2) peritonitis,
(?' embolism of the art. pulmonalis, and (4) bronchopneumonia. A group Of
derly patients operated on for surgical disease of the stomach is discussed in great-
er detail. The condition of the circulatory and respiratory systems, and of the
metabolism, is decisive for the prognosis of o rations during advanced age. The
importance of preoperative preparation anTpostoperative care is stressed. The
