Production proceeds in th:ree stagea: 1) 'Sulfonation of D-11 diesel oill4ith a sulfuric anhydrlde; 2) neutralization a~i the sulfonated diesel oil with sodium hydroxide; 3) obtainment of calcitua salts ot sul- fonic acids by double decomposition of the sodium salts vith calcium chloride and cen- trifugation. vas process does not require complex equipment, COrrOElion resit~tdnt coatiuS or expensive and rare reagents, anil the quality of the product is the same as that dbtained~kunder laboratory conditions. The SK-3 has fine detergent, anti-carbon and anti-weark~propcrties, and is recomended as an additive to iliesel. oil for autom-c- bile7 -engines and -other type *engines. TITLE: Corrosion of Steel in Methylene Bromide (Korroziya stali v bromistom. metilene) PERIODICAL; DokI. AN AzerbSSR, 1957, Vol 13, Nr 8, pp 865-867 ABSTRACT- The corrosion resistanc'e of carbon and stainless steels Kh-13, Kh-17, Kh18N9 was investigated in crude and purified methylene bromide (BM-2). In the course of the experiments the solution was stirred periodically. The rate of corrosion of stainless steels was somewhat greater (by 20-50 percent, an the average) in the crude product 'than in the purified methylene bromide. On the corrosion resistance scale the stainless steels occupy a position on the border line between completely corrosion- resistant materials and materials which exhibit adequate corrosion- resistant properties. Unalloyed steel, which was tested in the crude methylene.bromide only, was found to be more corrosion-resistant than stainless steel and may, therefore, Card I./I be classified as a completely corrosion- resistant material. Other experiments in which the alloy was kept in solutions at pH 7-13 for 25 days at temperatures of 120, 50 and 90C showed that corrosion increased somewhat with increasing temperataip, but decreased markedly. with decreasing pH, becoming insignificant at pH 9-10. The aqueous electrolytic solutions contained i% NaQp and their pH was allwava 13. In the pure aqueous alkaline solution, the corrosion rate of the muoy in the Absence of potroleum. increases with the temperature* reaching a maximum at 600C, then remaining constant up to 900C. The addition of 10% petroleum to this solution decreases the corrosion considetably ~p to 70OC; above this temperature# the corrosion rate o-IjAbs sharply. If clay or chalk is added to the potroleum,-containing scolution, ibe. rate becomes almost as rapid an in the pure solution in the absence of petroleum. Addition of gypsum markedly decreases:the corrosion rate,, which booftes practically indepondeub of tho temperature and amdunt of petroleum added. The presence of sulfate KC NRt AP6028892 ions is thought to cause a strong anodic polarization. This observation opekia up new possibilities for protecting aluminum alloys from corrosion in a3lcaline media,, The surface-active Inhibitor NChK (Petrov4s contact) was also tested in the presence of 10% petroleum and adsorbents. The corrosion rate was lawer in the presence of chalk than in the presence of clay, because the latter adsorbs more NW than chalk. In the presence of 10 g of NGhK per liter in the presence of gypsump practioaU'v rto corro- sion of D16T &1loy was obaerveds even i at high temperatures. Orig. art. has$ I figure and i table.
