ABSTRACT: Virological and bacteriologic tests of one hundred children vaccin-
ated against smallpmc for the first time revealed that throat infla=natlon
(swelling of mucuous membrane, transparence of vesicles) occurs in 70 percent
of thet--cases, usuallY 5-7 days after vaccination. In some cases the pattern
of the disease is more serious (pseudocliphtherial angina) and appeArs .10-13
days after vaccination. Since no trace of vaccinia virus was found in in-
oculated chick embryos, it is assumed that the presence of the virus i_u blood--.,-
