On the basis of 198 investigations in 148 patients, the author noted that the diastase
in the blood or in urine was increased in 84.576 of cases. In the first week of tile
disease diastase in the blood was above 32 U. in 60%, and in urine above 64 U. in
8076; in the next weeks these figures decreased. No correlation wits found between
the degree of the enlargement of the parotid glands and the diastase level, the
severity of the course of mumps and the diastase level in the blood and in urine.

with visceral lesions in the digestive tract, in the kidneys and in the heart muccle.
The case is Illustrated with microphotographs of skin and muscle samples, taken
during life and with post-mortem preparations of the skin, muscles and liver.
The finding of extensive vascular lesions in many organs is worth emphauizingr.

Heparin increases the lysis of fibrin induced in its preiience no well as in its
absence In solutions of bovine plasma globulins. In the tests with heparin a more
rapid liquefaction of fibrin occurs and consequently an increase of trichloracetic
acid-soluble tyrosine. The reduction of the fibrinolysis time with added heparin
becomes more marked in relation to the length of the fibrinolysis time of the
system without heparin. In specimens of the same fibrinolytic potential, but
differing in the platelet antifibrinolysin level the reduction of the fibrinolysift time
on adding heparin rises with the antifibrinolysin level; if the latter rises,
heparin is necessary to get optimum fibrinolysis. The conclusion Is that he.T~rrien

TEXT: To better utilize the energy of exhaust gases it is proposed to sup-
ply them in two streams It and 'f (see Fig.) to the guiding apparatus of'the gas
turbine 16, the blades of which have such a form In each of two sections 5 and 8
that.the circumferential components of gas velocities are equal.. In a 4-cycle
enginei2 exhaust valves 13 and 14 are mounted; the valve 111 opens later than
the -~valve 13. A variant of an engine with an outlet slide, valve instead of two
,valves is described as well as a variant of a 2-cycle engine with two channels

Abstract; [Authors' English suminary] Paper deala with fol-
low up (1-20 years) of 218 pationts in ~d-iich gastric or
duodenal ulcers have been sutured because of perCoration.
Lqss than 10 percent had no relapse, 70 per-cent had com-
plaints and some relapses, and in 40 percent partial re-
soction had to be performed later. Long-rimigo effects of
the operation wore better in patients in whom perforation
had boon tho very first sign of the diseaso. Of the 27
roforances, 4 are Polish, 3 Phissian, 4 Gorman, 1 French,
and 14 English.

TEXT: The method relates to the decomposition of ilmenite,
slag, e~tc., for instance, by means of sulphuric acid. The subject
matter of the invention is characterized by the fact that the
mixture of titaniunt raw material and sulphuric acid is made to
react in a channel and the readtioft is completed in a conditioning
chamber for the entrained material. The lineae velocity of the
material in the channel, the quantity andtemperature of the
introduced reaction components are cliosen on the basis of the
temperature of the reacting material in such a way that the
material arrives into the conditioning chamber in a-fgeely-
running state at a maximum temperature. An examp
