Abstract; Children younger than 2~ montha are unable to excrete
hypertonic urine after intravenous administration of vasopressin
during viatoer diuresis; this is due to a low sensitivity of the dis-
tal system. Vasopressin does not increase permeability to water,
and decreases glomerular filtration which causes antidiuresis ae-
companied by an increased osmolarity of urine in the youngest
children. 'The development of the sensitivity of the distal system
to vasopressin affects only resorption of water. 6 Figures, 17

TEXT: In order to prevent the deposit of gasoline drops in the intake manifold of in engine, it is suggested
to impose on the drops a negative electrostatic charge by means of an electrode mounted in the fuel Stream.
The drops then pass along a second, positive-charged electrode. Both electrodes, made of metallic netting
are fixed to insulators mounted in the intakc manifold. The electrodes are fed from the electric generator of
the engine.

Haernagglutination tests were performed In gulnea-pigs immunized with lyophilized
BCG vaccines prepared from 3 strains: Danish, Brazilian and French, the tests
proved useful for the evaluation of the vaccines. Certain differences were found in
the haemagglutination titres in animals immunized with 3 vaccines; these differences
were, however, not so striking as to prove the superiority of any of the vaccines
used. The haernagglutination tests cannot be used as a sole factor for the evalua-
tion of the produced vaccines, since It does not reflect the post -vaccination re-
sistance of the body; nevertheless they should be used as one of Oe adjuvant tests.

Abstract: In Poland, the basic cause of high mortality of
piglets (40%) is to be found in incorrect feeding
of pregnant sows, which primarily causes an animal
protein deficiency while carbohydrates are abund-
ant in diets. 'When a proteir shortage exists in
the fodder given to pregnant sows, farrowinr is
sluggish and delayed. This fact increases morti-
natality incidences and mortality percentages

lies are detected in them such as easy vulnera-
bility of the digestive tract's mucosa which
leads to severe diarrhea5 especially nmong weaned
piglets. In piglets, diagnostic symptoms of vita-
min deficiency are apparent in partial hornifica-
tions of the tongue surface, especially in the

hornifications begin already during the intra-
uterine period of fetal life. Their degree
depends upon the degree of hyoovitaminosis and
on the pigletst agdi In severe cases hornifida-
tion layers are seVeral mm thick. In the orga-
nism of a newborn piglet, colostrum serves as a
basic source for the replenishment of vitamin A
reserves, By adding provitamin A (carotene) to
the fodder of pregnant sows, vitaminosity may be
increased considerably. It is recommended that
animals should receive various vitamin prepara-
tions. A 3rd important cause for high mortality
among piglets is found in insufficient lacta-
tion of farrowed sows. Sometimes lactation dis-
turbances ere observed in otherwise quite healthy
sows. Their mammary glands are well-developed
and well-supplied with blood, yet they do not
secrete milk. In such instances, a single

ABSTRACT: Blast furnaces are lined,with carbon bricks well fitted
together or with raw carbon blocks bound by carbon
filler. The.materials used must have a good heat con-
ductivity and be stable not only toward hot iron and
slag, but also toward C02. Besides, the latter method
requires the.use of materials having the same thermal
expansion. The heat conductivity of a number of speci-
mens of different sizes was measured at different tem-
peratures. The results.show that thE heat conductivity

of porosity, specific gravity and resistivity and with
the increase of temperature. The heat conductivity of
raw carbon blocks and carbon filler increases with-the
increase 'of-temperature. Hikb thermal expansi-on and
shrinkage'-factors have--been-responsible-for much damage
in refractory-, carbon. - -Thes-e, factors -are especially
high--with-raw-carbon lining, and it is-advisable.to
heat it up-to-temp~eratures above 2500C before blowing
in-the--furnace.- The reactivity of refractory carbon
-with CO was studied under different conditions, with
mater 'is of
ia 'different porosity and compressive strength
and with varying gas composition and temperatures. The
resultszshow that the stability of refractory carbon
.toward C02 declines with--greater porosity and at tem-
peratures above,10000C, is higher toward a mixture of
C02 with N2 than toward pure CGr_: and in the presence of
coke. A good heat conductivity of carl)on lining entures
better heat transfer. The th6rmal expansion factors of
