TEXT: The noise in bearings is generally undasirtible and
a method is needed fur its measurement in absolute units. The
author de6cribes the principles involved in the design of the
equipment, which comprises an accelerometer, measuring and
calibrating gear and a test spindle. The noise in an anti-
friction bearing itself is in moHt cases negligiblt. The
noisiness of an assembly is due to imperfections in the
geometry of the bearing, causing vibrations which propagate
into the adjacent components as noise. The 1,-ireseid. equipment
measures the vibration of the outer ring when the :Inner ring
is rotated. The resulting radial movement is meanured by
converting mechanical displacements into AC voltaqgel which :is
then amplified and indicated.

The accelerometer (vibration inducer - Fig. 2) features two
barium-titanate discs (1, 2) separated by an electeode (3);
these are prcssed to the base (4) by the disc spring (6)
acting on the "seismic" mass (5). The pressure cark be adjusted
with the screw (7). Response is linear between 20 c.p,s.
and 10 kc/9 within + 2 db. Resonance occurs above 30 kc/s.
Sensitivity is 10 rO-/g, weight 18 g, capacitanze of the
connecting cables 100 pF. The measuring amplifier has a
meter and a 2-W loudspeaker, as well as two 1Am-Lt kndicator
lamps, red and green, for above and, respectively, below an
adjustable level. The calibrating unit consists of a vibrator
adjusted to 9.81 M/Bec 2 and serves as a permanent titand-ard.
Previous measurement was comparative, the bearing under-^ test beiig
compared with a standard bearing which was difficult. to maintain.
The test spindle in driven by an electric motor and ha~-; a
movable arm for positioning the accelerometer. It viab found
that pressing the accelerometer by hand to th.~i outer ring of
the bearing was unsatisfactory and a calibr-ated spring is now

The author examined the cystometric values of 21 patients wiffering from en!jrri~k
7 patients with congenital pathological changes of the vertebral column. 5 with
turnours or injaries of the spinal cord, 3 cases of Little's disease and 12 contmi
cases. The results were as follows: (1) the capacity of the bladder is dirniniaw.
in enuretics, (2) the act of micturition takes place at a less degree of filling Inn
at a higher pressure of the bladder than in normal control children. (3) the t3Ve
of micturition in enuretics Ls similar to the type in pathological states wherv the , 4
sacral centre is deprived of cortical regulation, (4) excluding the interoceptive A
