structure. At higher BaO contents, X-ray work shown a markod solubility
of BaO in BaUOV This solution persists up to 75 mol % BmO., At 60 Mal %
BaO the interference lines become sharp, showing thal, a strictly cubic
structure is present. Additional weak Itnos which oppear may be explained
by the superatructure formation, caused by doubling of the lattice can-
stants. It was found that the lattice constants increase irith the BaO
content up to 75 mol % BaO. A distinct brook occurs at 66,,7 mol % DaO,
correar.onding to the composition of a previously asnumad comround Ba 2V 04
Up to 75 mol /'~ BaO the somple is not hygroscopic; vith higher BaO contents
the samples show a TOlUM* contraction or reduction with H 2 and an increase
in weight when left standing in air. Both of these facts point to the
presence of free BaO. FVrther details of the structure an([ properties of
the perovskite phase (50 - 75 Mal % BaO) is the subject of the present

atoms enter the uranate lattice and diminish the lattice constant, An
