and D. Toti6'as a paper ' ' presented at the Saveto-
vanje ingenjera i tahaiUra rudarske i metalur6ke struke
(Conference of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers and
Technicians) held in Skopje in May 1958 . It is the
first in a series of articles, covering the history,
discovery, occurrence, mining and processing of tungsten
throughout,the world. Here, particular attention is
paid to the technological working of tungsten and its
concentration. Statistics on the world consumption of

Abstract; /-Author's English summary modifieg/ The mortality
rate among newborn infants varies according to latest data
between 2 and 3 percont, caused by respiratory failure in
more than half of the cases. The author discusses the
causes of asphyxia and the xethods of treatment, including
the mouth-to-mouth method of resuscitation, which the
author rrefers or, the b;-,sis of hic exrcrience with the
resuscitation cf 54 infants born in Iiis department. The
author recorizends this procedure In cases of moderate and
severe asph,,rxia whenever the use of endotracheal intubation
is imnossible. Western and YuGoslav references.

quent causes of trouble with the umbilical cord in childbirth are
sidewa.7z or cross-wise positions in the womb and pronounced cephalo-
pelvic disproportion. Childbirth must be completed as soon as
possible if the umbilical cord is compressed or broken, by opera-
tion if necessary, unless the infant is already dead. The authors
describe their experiences with 30 such oases out of 12,524 births
at their clinic between 1957 and the end of May 1962.
