Steady gas flow is considered as consisting of two parts: a) the flow nucleus, which can be treated by the macroscopic formulas, and b) the wall- adjoining Jayer, of thickness equal to the mean frcc path. The inmroction between the now nuc- leus and the wall is realized through the wall-adjoining layer. A result of this conception, cor- roborated by specially conducted investigations, is that the head losses and the intensity of the heat- and mass exchange depend on the velocity at the surface of the stream nucleus and on the mean free path. The shearing stress at the wall is determined on the basis of the molecular structure, and the value of the head losses in the gas stream calculated with its aid. The ratio between the head losses in two pipes of diameters d and d, is found to be, for the case of equal mean velocities: Apt = Ap(d1d,)"1 (9) This formula was tested experimentally.
