Abstract The soil cover of Tataria is represented by chernozems,
CXay forest-and-steppe, sod-podzolic, water-meadow and
sod-carbonated soils; also there are encountered mrshy
and semi-mrshy bottom soils, solonchaks and solonetzes.
Chernozems are divided into three subtypes: lixiviated,
):)re-Inary and carbonated. AccardinL; to the depth -if the
h-Lu-nis horizons, they are described as of a sLMll depth
with a hum.1s horizon of UP to 50 cm, of mi avera,,,e depth
of up to 80 era and of a Creat depth of nore than 80 cn.
Pronounced also are the variability of the terrace usual

(slijitly podzolic) soils are located in diciduous fo-
rests. They are divided into lidit-~,Tay with a hurms
content of 5.5-6%. Sod-pod'zolic soils are divided into
two c;roups, Cravel and sand. Dependin-r upon the-.'.de._Tee
of expressiveness of the podzolic -process, these soils
are described as heavily poulzalic, averaL-,aly podzolic
