ABSTRACT: Four possible methods for preparing diborane (I) were investigateds
a) reaction of boron trichloride (II) with sodium aluminum hydride (III) according to
the equation

b) reacting boron trifluoride (IV) with III in various others and hydrocarbons as
solvents; c) two-step synthesis,, the first step being reaction of III with LiGl or
AlCl , and the second-the addition of other solution of IV; d) also a two-step
syntgesis involving fi,-st the preparation of a reaction mixture of AlGla with sodium
borohydride (V) and then a reaction of this solution with otheroalIV. This study is
an expansion of the work published earlier by the authors (Zh. neorg. khimii, 9.,

were performed under a stream of pure nitrogen which,, on leaving the reaction
vessel., was passed through acetone traps for collecting the diborane. It was
observed that: 1) reaction of (a) proceeds with a number of intermediates; 2) high
yields of I are obtained from reactions a and b if 5-10% of diglyme are added
to the other or hoptane solvent; 3) reaction a produces I in large amounts;
4) reaction of III with IV in THF results in high yields of 1; 5) addition of AM
to diglyme solutions of III or Vj followed by addition of IV, permits utilization 0

that inh!.bition of the Pasteur effect with anoxic or
arobic asphyxia corresponds to irritability; in the

Experimental hypertension was produced by means of experimental neurosis in 5
dogs. After a period of 11 months of stabilized hypertension, macroscopic and
microscopic changes in the heart. the renal arteries and the arteries of the spleen
were found. The higher nervous activity was characterized in such animals by a
great stability of the conditioned reflexes and by a simultaneous weakening of

the ability to differentiate. In earlier experiments of the author it had been shown
that other methods producing experimental hypertension (but not acting by directly
Influencing higher nervous activity), such as denervation of the carotid sinus or
partial ligation of one renal artery, similarly evoke primary and secondary chang.
es in higher nervous activity. Unilateral or bilateral decortication of animals with
and without compensated renal hypertension resulted in a significant elevation of
blood pressure. This favours the view of possible compensatory role of the cere-
bral cortex In hypertension. It is also supported by earlier experiments of the
author, showing that in hypertensive patients with advanced sclerotic manifesta-
tions the plethysmographic oscillations become much more conspicuous in sleep
than In the waking state. In mild hypertension such differences have not been
