TITLE: On the Direct Synthesis of Methylchlorosilanes

ABSTRACT: Methylchlorosilanes were obtained by methylating dichlorosilane
(SiH sub 2 C1 sub 2), which, in turn, Is a decomposition product of trichlorosilane
(SiHCl sub 3). An apparatus shown in ENCLOSURE 01 was used. HC1 gas, mixed with
varying amounts of BC1 sub 3 catalyst was introduced into reactor A, where they
were agitated and reacted with an 80:20 Si-Cu alloy contact mass. A mixture of
chlorosilanes was formed. It contained 357. dichlorosilane by weight, proving that
this was an intermediate substance in the formation of methylchlorosilane (CH sub
3 SiHC1 sub 2). The mixture was drawn off, mixed with CH sub 3 Cl, and conducted
Into reactor B. There it was again brought Into contact with an Si-Cu alloy.

Reactors A and B were operated at 300 C. From BV the products were conducted to
a c6oler and separated by fractional distillation from CH sub 3 Cl. -The amounts
of reagents and catalyst used and product compositions are tabulated. The
effectiveness of the BCI sub 3 catalyst Is evident; BC1 sub 3 also catalyzed the
equilibrium rearrangement of methylchloroallanes and tetrachlorosilane. Later,
a single reactor (described in Acts Chimica Hungar. v. 39, p. 27) was used
instead of reactors A and B.' This was simpler and more practical, although the
product yield was not as good as with the two-reactor arrangement. Enclosures;

which had the clinical appearance of Weil's disease, was presumably caused by

in the death of the patient because of renal insufficiency. The importance
of early treatment and of early diagnosis is pointed out
and some diagnostic problems are discussed briefly. Of interest in the caso
is the demonstration of numerous leptospirae in the organs by means of

abstract 11A426 ("Solnechnyye dannyye", 1960 (1961), no. 9, 75 - 78)
TEXT: On June 19, 1960, a chromospheric flare was observed in Ho@line at
an altitude of 15,390 km above the solar edge at the Shemakha Astrophysical Ob-
servatory, AS Azerbaidzhan SSR, by means of an interference-polarization filter
with passband 0.5 A. The authors present a spectroheliogram of this flare region
near the brightness maximum and the results of measurements at various instants
of development of brightness, area and height of the flare. The changes in all
three quantities proceed synchronously, which testifies to the existence of an
actual movement of the substance in the flare. The average speed of flare rising
was 13 km/sec.

ABSTRACT: Absorptions in the forbidden lines 557T X, 6300 X, and
6364 1 are conditioned by the transitions 1DZ 4 ISO, 2 P2 - ID2, and
3p,
- 'Dz, corre spond ng to the basic configuration. Special attentioni
is given to the 63003 line whose wavelength, as measured by various
authors, is inconsistent. The Nil 6300-X line was measured from
spectrograms from the Main Astronomical Obnervatory and the final result,@_
was found to be 6300.340 t 0.004 X. Whis value differs from the
generally accepted value of 6300.363 A. The computation was repeated i-
taking atmospheric refraction and the frequency in vacuum into

consideration. The wavelength in air was found to be 6300.336

of 6300.308 and the MiI line of 6300.340 A forms a line in the center'

velocity of the Sun was found to be 1.873 km/sec. The measured equiva-i
lent'width of the 01 line did not change markedly in time. A slight
increase in width was observed with increased zenithal distance of
the Sun. Theoretical computations shov that a change of the coefficient!
of dissociative recombination of the 02 molecule at high electron tem-
peratures can increase the intensity to 400 kR. This may be the reason
for the decrease of the equivalent width of the 63004 Fraunhofer line.

TE(T: The problem is considered of the calculation of the electromag netic
field of a vertical magnetic dipole (a horizontal frame of vanishingly by small
sizes) fed with a sinusoidal current. The dipole Is arranged on the Earth's sur-
face consisting of plane-parallel layers with different specific resistances and
a magnetic permeability equal to the magnetic permeability of the vacuum. The
solution is reduced to the wave equation of the vector potential under boundary

with the aim of creating a single series of stations with a power of from 0-5 to 5-0

For the case of one-dimensional flow, and assuming that the coefficient of
the Henry formula be equal to the value of the specific gravity of the gas
under standard conditions (s= yo ), algebraic expressions are given to
which the differential equations can be reduced under the stated conditions
@y the replacement of the derivatives by finite differences. It should be
noted that the aggregate of the assumptions enumerated above results in
a very coarse schernatization and limits considerabley the field of applica-
bility of the equations proposed. The description of the bounda ry- condition
considerations is not sufficiently clear, besides, the relationship (6) holds
true only in case of an impermeable area of influence and cannot be joined
to relationship (4) as may be understood from the treatment of the boundary
