ABSTRACT: This territory represents a large synclinorium,

presence in the coastal zone of Tertiary and Mesozoic

may be considered as a continuation of the Dagestan

ABSTRACTI In order to find the optimum reagent for detennining
ytterium-subgroup, rare
earth elements, a quantitative comparison of the
spectrophotometric characteristics of
M different reagents for determining rare earth elements was made
by using ytterbium
as an example. The following characteristics were considered: the
difference
between the wavelengths of the absorption peaks of the cOmDlOx
XVSR and reagent X ;
(b) the relative and (c) the absolute difference between t-he
molar extinction ooeffi_
cients of the complwc kSaR and reagent ERR at XMax of the complex.
The absorption
spectra of the molecular and ionic forms of the reagents and their
complexes with
ytterbium were recorded; the composition of the complexes was
determined. -The best
reagents for the spectrophotometric determination of yttriun,
group rare earths were
found to be arsenazo (III)s xylenol orange, stilbazo, methyl
thymol bluey and pyrooat-
