"Intramedullar Epidermoid Tumor." Budapest, Ideggyowyaszati Szemle, Vol XIX, No 8, Aug 66, pages 249-252. Abstracti The case of a 61 year old man with an Intramedullar epidermoid tumor is reported together with a brief literature survey of the subject. The anamnesis did not contain any data which may have pointed to the possi- bility of exogenous implantation. The intramedullar localization would also contradict an exoGenous origin. In spite of the advanced age of the patient and the slow course of the disease, it must be classified as congenital, which lends added interest to the case. All 9 references are Western. Stabilization and rigidity coefficients serving as comparative characteristics of hydrofoil units are presented by the author in graphs for the stabilization coefficient as a function of imm'ersion, the rigidity coefficie as a function of immersion, and the effect of immersion and angle of attack on the rigidity coefficient of a plane foil. A comparison was made between various groupings of stations and the systems of coordinates used for studying the magnetic variationa during a quiet sun. The algorithm B used in earlier publications was insufficient for the solution of the problem of Sq~-variations, The algorithm A was introduced which is analogous to that of Gauss and Shuster. The S --field was assumed to be e4ual to the magnetic field potential, and No components were Card ACC NRi AT6034609 expressed by sums of spherical harmonics from which the coefficients of expansion were determined. Computations of coefficients were made from various combinations of stations according to longitudinal zones and global distribution. Numerical values were given in tables. Analysis of variations of the amplitude cl of the computed first harmonic of the Sq-field and those of the observed field showed that errors obtained using geographic and geomagnetic coordinates differed very little, Approximate values of Sq-variations obtained using spherical functions expressed by geomagnetic coordinates of Bouthern and low-latitude stations were nearer the observed values. The same effect was obtained for stations of northern middle latitudes using spherical functions expressed by geographical coordinates.' A combina- tion of stations by longitudinal zones yields better agreement between computed and observed values of S -variationst DIfferent Sq.-a-field values in longitudinal zones indigate that the electrical conductivity--..- of zones is different* Maps of current whirls are given for both hemispheres. The mothod, oircumvents the time-consuming task of-introducing such data zranually and also avoids the complexity and Limits- .tion inherent in some earlier automated methods. The proposed device consists of an optical system for projecting an,image at a selected scale onto a screen equipped VM a push-button control for changing photo frames. The arrow is constrained to move in the plane of the screen; the coordinates of the tip of the arrow are stored in a cord memory unit whenever a contact switch is closed. The device consists essentially of a recording unit, an input unit, and an information storage based on a mass-produced "Dnepr-1111 magnetic re- corder. The device makes it possible to calculate automatically the mean value of the ampli- tudes of two components or two reflected signals. The recording unit Is easy to ttine and Card 1/2 TACC ~-R-.--- AT6027213 permits recording of signals at an access frequency of 100 cps. To measure the tangential component of the distortion, two marks are printed on the photographic plate from the backing side with the help ef two projectors placed in the plane containing the sighting axos of the collimators. A line drawn through these mark.- and coinciding with the line of inter- section (or parallel to it) of the plane of the photographio plate with the plane containing the sighting axes of the collimators is taken as the initial reference line for measuring the tangential displacements. Measurement accuracy is improved by making the signals from the readout unit independent of rotation of the transparent gratings with respect to the reflecting ruled gratings. SOV/2o-121-5-18/50 TITLE: The Influence of Irradiation on the Activity of Some Ferments Localized in the Structures of the Lamellar Bodies of the Mesentery of Cats (Vliyaniye oblucheniya na aktivnost' nekotorykh fermentov, lokalizovannykh v strukturakh plastin- chatykh telets bryzheyki koshek) PERIODICAL: Doklady Akademii nauk SSSR9 1958, Vol 121, Nr 5, PP 834 - 836 (USSR) ABSTRACT: In order to investigate the earliest variations of the receptors (retseptor), the author locally irradiated the lamellar bodies of the mesentery of cats. The lamellar bodies belong to the type of the sensitive nerve ends. From a physiological point of view, they are baroreceptors. The investigations discussed in this paper were carried out on total mesentery preparations. Hungry animals were used for tiaese experiments. A part of the intestine was extracted from the abdominal cavity and irradiated Card 1/3 by soft X-rays. The non-irradiated parts of the mesentery The Influence of Irradiation on the Activity of Sone SOV/2o-121-5-18/50 Ferments Localized in the Structures of the Lamellar Bodies of the 11'esentery of Cats were used for control measurements. In order to obtain results immediately after irradiation, the author carried out a series of biopsies (biopsy). The most intensive activity of the basic phosphatasis vas found in the internal bulb of the receptor. It is less intensive in the shells of the fiber, in thle axial cylinder, and in the external capsule. According to these and other results of this investigation, the lamellar bodies do not contain choline esterasis (kholinesteraza). A pseudo-esterasis is found only in the simplast of the internal bulb of the receptor. The activity of all the investigated ferments was chan-ed by irradiation. This activity was intensified in the internal bulb and also in the shellF~ of the nerve fibors. Accordin(; to the investi[,ation of preparations with acid phosphatasis, the intensity of the reaction is less intensive in irradiated recentors than in non- irradiated ones. The activity of the choline esterasis in the irradiated receptors varies in the same way as Card 2/ 3 the activity of the basic phosphatasis. According to the The Influence of Irradiation on the Ferments Localized in the Structures I Mesentery of Cats PRESENTED: SUBMITTED: Card 313 Activity of Some SOV/2o-121-5-18/50 of the Lamellar Bodies of che results of this paper, the X-rays (of the doses applied by the author) disuinctly chanCe the activity of the ferments in the lamellar bodies of the mesentery of cats. Nevertheless, the localization of the ferments is not changed. The variations of the ferment activity in the irradiated receptors indicate a variation of its chemism. However, the ava4lable results are not sufficient for a determination of its chemism. At the moment of irradiation, the electrons have an exciting influence upon the receptors. In these, manifestations were studied of re- ciprocal antagonism and antagonism in relation to other microbial groups (to streptococei, intestinal bacteria, myco- coccus, moni-l"a). Bacillus mycoides is devoid of antibacterial properties; on the other hand, all bacteria of the subtilis- meBentericus group inhibited the growth of B. mWcoidas on nu- trient media, also on sterile and unsterile soils. The subtilis-mesentericus group of bacteria was located by the author in the brown soils of lowland districts, while B. mycoides vere in hilly soils containing much organic matter. The antagonism of B. sycoides and bacteria of the sub- tilis-mesentericus group, in the author's opinion, is one of the factors which determines the ecologic-geographic distribution of these bacteria in the soil.
