ABSTRACT: The author reDorts on exDeriments conducted in the
USSH with
wound steel piston rings. Such piston rinEs found a wide-
spread application for modern vehicle encines in Americav
Great
Britain and other countries. In 1957, INA7,11I conducted
experi-
ments with imported steel piston rinUs for determininff the
constructional parameters and the operational characteristics.
Figure 3 shows the installation of such piston rin:rs on a
piston of a ZIL-120 engine. Test stand investigations of
steel Diston rings were conducted with Ml'~1-120, GAZ-1420,

vich-40211 and Yal.2-204 engines. Based on the test, results,
NIITAvtoprom developed the technolol-Y of manufacturin'-,

the advantages of the steel pioton rin,-s. Hoaa tests with ve-

TEXT: Measurci-.ients of piston temperature in engines are
universally
undertaken with the aid of tnerinocOUPlCS. llo-~-;ever,
hitherto, this
method has found only a limited application owing to lack
of rel iable
current-collectin- ;nstrU'ren's. .~xistin- instruments are
applicable
for engines develo,,_-7 no. over 2500 r.o.i,.i. For modern
antomobile engines
which develop 4000-5COO r.p.m., Oese instruments are
unsuitable. The
organization HP k,114 (NAMI) has designed an apparatus
which permits
measuring piston temperatures in engines having up to 5000
r.p.m. The
forked apparatus , shown in Fi,-,. 1, has no moving
contacts, but is pro-
vided with fixed, stable contacts of a sliding type which
do not "stick"

AUTHOR: Adamovich, E. (Sverdlovsk)
TITLE: A Simplified Method of Manufacturing Parts of AiM-7
Plastics
PERIODICAL: Radio, 1959, Nr 5, p 38 (USSR)
ABSTRACT: For manufacturing simple plastic parts, dial
knobs,
etc., which require only one accurate surface, the
author suggests a very simple method. Plasticine is
filled into a container of suitable dimensions. The
model of the part to be produced is Dressed into the
plasticine. Powdered AKk-7 plastu-ic is dissolved in
a aolvent and stirred until it becomes viscous and
is then filled into the prepared mold. After 4-6
hours the part is removea and receives its final
shape by cutting with a ra7,or blade. The part is
dried for two dayo and is then boiled in water for

for coloring, such as by adding soot to the plastic
in small amounts.
