COVERAGE ISSUES
A. CRUISING: Recommend we continue to held
this position open and plan to fill it early next year^. The
bureau itself offers mor^e of a training oppor^t unity than a r^eal
cr^~_~ising challenge since both Jor^dan and Nicosia ar^e better' able
to r^espond to actual r^eq~_iir^ements. But we have only three other'
field locations for' staff cr^uisers, and by next year' we' 11
probably have only two. If the Tel Aviv position is r^etained
and filled, we should plan to have a senior' cr^~_~ising officer TDY
there sever^al times to pr^ovide guidance and eval ~_~at ion of the
.j~.inior^ cr^~_iiser^. We sho~.ild also ensur^e that the staffer' not be
assigned excessive non-cr^~_~ising d~_~t ies.
B. FACSIMILE: Facsimile eq~_~ipment w=~~.ild enable
the b~_ir'eau to expedite West Bank. Ar^abic pr^ess mater^ials to
Nicosia and Jor^d an f or^ fast er^ pr^ocess i rig and, i f necessar^y,

C. ARABIC CAPABILITY: The b~_~r'eau has been
r^ecr^~_~it ing locally for' .j. pint Hebrew-Ar^abic capabi 1 ity for about
