Of Special Interest This Week
+ NICOSIA ROSET - Installation of two Receive Only Satellite Earth
Terminals at Nicosia Bureau, one a C-band system and the other a Ku-band
system, was completed during the week. The C-band antenna is to be used
for monitoring public media sources carried on Arabsat, while the Ku-band
system will be devoted to Tehran media carried by an Intelsat vehicle.
Initial operations indicate that both systems are working normally. A
staff officer from Washington will spend about three weeks at the bureau
next month to assist Nicosia in refinin its satellite coverage to take
full advantage of the new antennas.
+ INTERNET - The link between FBIS Headquarters in Reston and the
INTERNET ground station at Quantico has been completed and fully tested.
INTERNET signals are now routed from the ground station by microwave
through Tysons Corner to Langley (into the OIR TV Operations Center), and
from there by fiber optics links to Reston. In addition to completing
the planned routing of INTERNET signals from abroad, establishment of the
Quantico-Reston link makes it possible to also utilize the ground
station's 15-meter dish antenna for operational monitoring of foreign
television programming as a backup for FBIS' 9-meter dish at Langley . F
