the western part of the island.

built a stronghold in this area in
recent weeks, with the help of men
and arms smuggled in from Turkey.

Cypriots made some probing move
that touched off more than they
intended./

3. Argentina
d. Loss of Albertville to
the rebels is another heavy blow
to the central government, and will
put still more steam behind sepa-
ratist tendOncies elsewhere.
e. The political stew in
Leopoldville is coming to the boil
as the mandate of the present gov-
ernment approaches term on 30 June.
Three of the principal political
coteries have now called for the
release of Gizenga and the return
of exiles under amnesty.
a. President Illia has de-
cided to take a firm stand against
the agitation campaign of the
General Confederation of Labor
(CGT).
b. The CGT has postponed
until 28 June an attempt to strike
the whole country. It threatens
to continue local strikes, however,
and yesterday pulled out some
thousands of industrial and mari-
time workers in Buenos Aires.
c. Illia, whose economic and
social policy has so far been one
of masterful inactivity,has been
conciliatory to labor up to now.
Businessmen and the military, how-
ever, have been insisting that he
must stand up to the CGT, whose sit-
in technique is highly disruptive.

E. British Guiana Jagan's cabled appeal for UN
intervention and a fact-finding mission is
"not the sort of thing the Secretary General
normally acts on," according to the secretariat
staffer in charge of petitions. The reaction
of the British delegation is also tepid, which
makes it likely that nothing further will come
of this foul off the end of Jagan's bat.
F. USSR Cosmos 32
was recovered yester-
day
in the Cosmos program, a purpose of
which is to collect precise missile targeting
information.
