1. Laos a. Souvanna now hopes to
meet with Souphannouvong tomorrow.
2. .Cyprus
b. He plans to assure
Souphannouvong, as he said in a
broadcast last night, that "all
the rightists in the country have
completely agreed to return power
to me."
c. At present, the facts
deny these brave words. The coup
generals appear to retain effec-
tive control over the government.
d. General Siho still com-
mands the military units in the
capital, and stringent controls
have been imposed on financial
transactions, news media, and the
movements of foreigners.
e. The military situation
a. The island is relatively
calm at the moment.
b. Turkish Cypriots have
agreed to a ceasefire in the
Kyrenia mountain area where the
Greek Cypriot offensive took place
last weekend.

Cypriots seem to want to keep the
situation quiet over the four-day
Orthodox Easter weekend that began
yesterday.
d. The danger of Turkish
intervention seems to have receded,
at least temporarily.
a. The Leopoldville govern-
ment is urgently airlifting more
troops into southeast Kivu Province
after a terrorist attack on Congo
Army forces there yesterday.
b. Casualties are reported
to have been heavy, and Colonel
Mulamba, commander of the 3rd
Congo Army Group, and one of the
Congoes most competent officers,
is said to be missing.
c. The specific indentity
and objectives of the terrorists
have not been established.

4. USSR-India
a. The USSR has offered to
help India bUild the first stage
of the Bokaro steel plant.
b. The Indian steel minister,
who announced this to Parliament
yesterday,said a team of Soviet
experts will visit India soon to
work out details.
c. New Delhi has also been
seeking funds for this project
in the West and in Japan.
d. The Soviets have assisted
with another steel plant at Bhilai
with an expenditure of over $200
million, more than one fourth of
the $800 million in economic aid
which the USSR has made available
to India since 1955.

USSR-Egypt Khrushchev will arrive in Cairo
next Saturday(
He will depart from Odessa
on Wednesday for a leisurely boat trip.
B. Rumania-US A Rumanian Government industrial
and commercial delegation hopes to begin talks
in Washington next Friday. Included in its
shopping list are rubber plants, chemical and
synthetics factories, several oil industry
plants, a nuclear power station, and a glass
factory.
C. Communist China Prospects for the winter wheat
crop are not bright. The crop, plagued with
unseasonal cold and excessive moisture, is now
threatened by an infestation of rust, which the
Chinese are ill-equipped to handle. At present,
Chinese grain purchases abroad are running at
about the same rate as last year's record level.
D. UK The latest Gallup Poll shows a further
decline in the popularity of the Conservative
Party. Labor is now 13.5 percent ahead.
E. Cuba Castro devoted about a fifth of his May
Day speech to the issue of US overflights. He
stressed Cuba's determination to bring about an
end to the flights by violence if necessary, but
stressed even more his regime's determination
to exhaust every peaceful means before taking
action against them.
