1. Reference is made to your memorandum dated 13 July 1957, subject
as above. We would appreciate receiving reproductions of the originals of
the seven pieces of personal correspondence found-in frames of soft film
among "Mark's" effects at the time of his arrest in order to ana3.yze the
original language and. handwriting for indications of authorship or hidden
content.
2. Regarding the message torn from an address-date book mentioned
on page 23 of your, memorandum, we would be interested-in learning whether
you have any indications whether. it. was written by Reino HAYHAI N or if
someone else is involved. Since the author was planning to sail on theko
"Queen Elizabethl" for 'London on '31 January 1957 and claimed to be under "\
surveillance, there is-some possibility the author was a Soviet official.
3. Finally, we would "appreciate being advised of the results of
checks of IM.. airline or any other-records which may have established.the
name under which "Mark" traveled from New York to Paris and Vienna in early
June 1955. We note that "'Mark" checked into the Embassy Hotel on 28 January
1956 which may be the approximate date of'his return to the United States
from his, Moscow trip.
