We are writing with regard to the advisories recently made by Federal Bureau of
Investigation Director Mueller and Attorney General John Ashcroft indicating the signs of new
terrorist threats against the United States in the upcoming summer months. Because New York
City was mentioned as a likely target, we request a full and confidential briefing by appropriate
senior officials of all agencies.
We know that the Department of Justice, the Department of Homeland Security and the
Central Intelligence Agency are working together to ensure the safety of all Americans and for
that we are thankful. In addition we ask that you make certain that local and state agencies
receive all relevant information and intelligence that will assist them in taking every step
possible to ensure the safety and security of New York and the entire country.
Because of the importance of this subject to us and to our constituents, we ask that a full
briefing of all information, both classified and unclassified, pertaining to the threats on New
York City be arranged for us this coming Tuesday, June I . To facilitate arrangements for this
