Experimental studies use more mentally stable popula-
tions, are of relatively short duration, do not elicit emo-
tional responses and use structured and benign hyp-
notic suggestions and procedures.
Experimental studies show hypnotic procedures caus-
ing no more harmful aftereffects than common experi-
ences such as taking exams, attending classes, verbal
learning and college life in general.
