May 28. Our staffs have been working together on these r)rcjects
and are familiar with the status. I do appreciate your candid
memorandum.

We agree with the MERCURY concept being suitable for the. future
DTS network.' We. support this with the understanding that GATE" AY
is required in the short term to meet our immediate re' uirc ens
and will become an integral part of the MERCURY architecture when
it becomes operational.
Our staffs are working together. to assure no duplication, again
with the understanding we have pressing requirements we must
satisfy in the short term. I have instructed my people to main-
tain needed coordination with your staff to ensure system cern-
pata}Sility.
Your people were invited to and attended a meeting with the Air
Force at Tinker Air Force Base to discuss the Air Force's AMPE
as the GATEWAY svstem.
As for our comment on your MERCURY specification, it appears to
be .a very thorough and complete document.
