1. (SWN) SIGNIFICANCE: A PROBABLE ANTIGUERRILLA FORCE, USED TO
CONDUCT ANTIGUERRILLA SWEEPS IN THE SOUTH AFRICAN-CONTROLLED
AREA OF SOUTHERN ANGOLA, IS AT CHANGONGO MILITARY AREA.
2. (SWN) REMARKS: TWO PUMA AND TWO ALOUETTE III HELICOPTERS ARE
ON THE ROAD IMMEDIATELY EAST OF THE DESTROYED BRIDGE OVER THE
CUNENE RIVER. THE HELICOPTERS ARE PROBABLY HERE IN SUPPORT OF
FORCES CONDUCTING ANTIGUERRILLA SWEEPS IN THE SOUTH
AFRICAN-CONTROLLED AREA OF SOUTIERN ANGOLA. AT LEAST 21
PERSONNEL ARE IN THE VICINITY OF THE HELICOPTERS, AND A POL
TRUCK IS PROBABLY REFUELING ONE OF THE A FEL
LIGHT ARMORED VEHICLE COMPANY PRESENT ON IS NOT
OBSERVED.
(SWN) THE CHANGONGO MILITARY AREA IN SOUTH-CENTRAL ANGOLA IS
APPROXIMATELY 40 NM NORTH OF THE ANGOLA-NAMIBIA BORDER.
