(SWN) SIGNIFICANCE: THE DEPLOYMENT OF THIS SYSTEM IN ANGOLA IS PROBABLY IN REACTION TO RECENT SOUTH AFRICAN AIR INCURSIONS ALONG THE SOUTHERN BORDER REGION (GRAPHIC 1). 2. (SWN) REMARKS: ANGOLA CONTINUES TO INCREASE ITS AIR DEFENSE CAPABILITIES IN THE SOUTHERN REGION. ONE THIN SKIN B RADAR AND AT LEAST FOUR SUPPORT VEHICLES ARE DEPLOYED IN REVETMENTS IN CARACULO POSSIBLE Ali RADAR SITE (GRAPHIC 2). THIS IS THE FIRST IDENTIFICATION OF THIN SKIN RADAR IN ANGOLA. THE THIN SKIN RADAR IS A SOVIET-BUILT HEIGHT FINDER ASSOCIATED WITH AIR WARNING RADAR SITES OR AIR DEFENSE UNITS AND REPRESENTS A SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN AIR DEFENSE CAPABILITY. ADDITIONAL AIR DEFENSE ELECTRONICS ORDER-OF-BATTLE EQUIPMENT DEPLOYED IN THE SOUTHERN REGION OF ANGOLA INCLUDES THE ODD PAIR AND FLAT FACE RADARS.
