1. (S/D) SIGNIFICANCE: ELEIUUIENTS OF A SOUTH AFRICAN MECHANIZED
INFANTRY BATTALION, LAST OBSERVED AT CIIANGONGO, ARE NOW AT
NGIVA, IN ANGOLA.
2. (SID) REMARKS: ELEMENTS OF A SOUTH AFRICAN MECHANIZED INFANTRY
BATTALION ARE AT THE WEST EDGE OF NGIVA. EQUIPIfENT INCLUDES AT
LEAST 31 RATEL INFANTRY FIGHTING VEHICLES AND AT LEAST SIX
TRUCKS/SUPPORT-VEHICLES. THIS UNIT WAS NOT PRESENT ON
(S/D) ON COVERAGE OF 63 RATEL AND NUMEROUS
SUPPORT VEHICLES WERE OBSERVED AT CHANGONGO, ANGOLA. ONLY
SEVEN RATEL WERE OBSERVED AT CHANGONGO ON
(S/D) NGIVA IS 27 NM NORTH OF THE NAMIBIA-ANGOLA BORDER.
