Approved For Release 2008/10/02 : CIA-RDP90B01370R000600840021-1 10 April 84 SUBJECT: Central America Briefing Request by Doug Olin, Senate Budget Committee Staffer. Doug Olin, currently a "Senior Analyst for National Security and International Affairs" on the staff of the Senate Budget Committee and former OMB examiner for CIA, is arranging the Chiles-Johnston CODEL trip to Central America, 15-21 April 84. (The visit is under State Department and DoD auspices to El Salvador, Honduras, Panama, and Nicaragua.) In addition to the two Senators and Olin, Richard Collins, Senate Appropriations Committee's Foreign Operations Sub- committee staffer (Senator Inouye's man), will accompany the CODEL. He is a frequent Central America visitor; this will be Olin's first visit there and he would appreciate a DDI briefing on the area. He requests that it be at Headquarters at 2 p.m. Friday, 13 April. Richard Collins would accompany him. Olin still has an im ressive set of exotic clearances 25X1 For the Olin-Collins briefing, the following requests were conveyed re Central America: 25X1 -Current political situation. -Perspective on political/military leaders. -Election prognosis for El Salvador and Panama. -Impact of Gen. Alvarez' departure and future implications. -Military situation. -A "pumping up" on appropriate questions to ask VIPs being met in Central America. (See attached itinerary 25X1 and list of personages on whom biodata has been provided the CODEL.) CC?
