Items of Interest
1. Joint Economic Committee
On 21 November Robert Gates, DDI, and DI analysts briefed
the Joint Economic Committee on Soviet and Chinese economies.
2. Nunn, Johnston, and Glenn
On 20 November Senators Sam Nunn (D., GA), J. Bennett
Johnston (D., LA), and John Glenn (D., OH) were briefed on
India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.
3. HPSCI Interviews
During the course of the latter part of last week through
Wednesday of this week, HPSCI staff collected evidence from
officers mentioned in the IG report
Their purpose was to ascertain whether the
Agency had been in violation of the Boland amendment or
Executive Order 12333 in supporting and disseminating the
manual. The issue will be officially investigated during formal
committee hearings scheduled for 4 December. Papers prepared
for the DCI on this subject contain further detail.
4. Rep. Torricelli Briefing
On 21 November Cong. Robert J. Torricelli (D., NJ) was
briefed by DI analysts on Uruguay where he will be an observer
of the Uruguayan elections.
