Thank you for your letter of January 30. If I understand
the agenda for the conference on Europe in the 1980s correctly,
I am supposed to discuss Bill Griffith's contribution. Although
I have known Bill for years, it would be nice for the sake of
preparation to have something written of his in hand before the
meeting.
May I make an additional suggestion? I wonder whether our
discussion might not profit from the presence of some Soviet
experts, and if so, I have an excellent candidate in mind: my
colleague here at Carnegie, Dimitri Simes, who would be extremely
well-placed to deal with the politico-military dimension.
