Fritz, National Ocean Service, was elected President of Com- mission II, and he has asked me to chair Working Group II/l, "Analytical Instruments," with Chet Slama as Secretary. We would be pleased to have a representative from CIA serve on this Working Group. From recommendations made at the Rio Congress, we have com- piled the attached list of tentative objectives. Other objectives are likely to be recommended by new members and added to the list. A list of tentative business meetings is also attached, and hopefully, there will be other business and technical meetings, some abroad for the benefit of overseas members. We plan to have our membership list completed by March 10, 1985, and a firm schedule of meetings by April 1, 1985. If you are able to accept this invitation to have a representative join our Working Group, please let Mr. Chester C. Slama (address below) know by March 1, 1985. We will welcome any suggestions you or your representative might have on objectives, meeting dates and locations, and other working Group II/1 activities. Sincerely, Morris L. McKenzie Chairman, Working Group II/1 STAT STAT Copy: Slama Enclosures (2) Morris L. January 28, 1985 1. Testing Procedures for Analytical Stereoplotters. A manual of standard procedures for testing accuracy will be prepared to help buyers evaluate the accuracy of analytical stereoplotters being considered for purchase and to help users make periodic accuracy checks of analytical stereoplotters already in service. 2. Review, and if needed, revise and update the "Analytical Plotter Evaluation Guide" and the "Introduction to Analytical Plotter Evaluation Guide." The "Analytical Plotter Evaluation Guide" and the "Introduction to Analytical Plotter Evaluation Guide" were prepared during the 1976-1980 and 1980-1984 WG II/1 tenures, respectively. They need to be reviewed for possible revision by each succeeding WG II/1 to keep them from becoming obsolete. 3. Standardize input, output, and programs for analytical ster- eoplotters. The ability to exchange data and software between analytical stereoplotter users, or even between stereo- plotters of a given organization, is limited because of the lack of compatibility between makes and models. A subgroup will be formed to prepare a manual of guidelines for standardizing input, output, and computer programs. 4. Compile a reference manual listing analytical instruments and manufacturers. This reference manual will be prepared to help the prospective buyer contact manufactures. 5. A handbook will be assembled containing items 1 through 4. The handbook of reference manuals will be available from ISPRS Commission II President.
