SUBJECT: Department of State Draft, FRUS, 1955-57,
Volumes XXV and hXVI, East Asia and the Pacific
1. Attached are pages of interest to the DO taken from the draft of
the Department of State Foreign Relations of the United States, Volumes
XXV and XXVI (formerly Volume XI Z e pages~iave Teen org ian zed into six
groups, representing material on Indonesia, 1liailand, Burma, South Korea,
the Philippines, and Singapore-Malaysia. (U)
2. Apart of this material had been submitted by the State Department
in 1980 as Volume XI. At that time, CRD sent selected pages to the D0, and
the DO had passed on some of those pages. In vietia of the time that leas
elapsed, however, CRD has elected to ignore the previous review work and to
start from scratch on Volumes XXV and XXVI. (U)
3. Each page has been reviewed by the Classification Review Division.
' Each group is accompanied by a worksheet detailing CRD's recommendations for
deletions and file justifications under E.O. 12356 for each deletion. (U)
4. We request your overall review as soon as possible in order that we
may return this material to the State Department. Please return the draft
pages to CRD, along with your comments, when your review is completed. (U)
5. lYe have attached only those pages in question from the FRUS; the
entire volume of approximately 2,000 pages is available for your review if
you desire to see them. (U)
