3. Following are details of the public institutions:
a. The district council is located in the former Prefectura building, opposite
a small park in which there is a statue. This building also houses the
district committee of the Communist youth organization.
b. The town council is located on the second floor of a two-story building
(formerly the Primaria), at the beginning and on the left side of Pikti
Mihai Viteazul, coming from Bulevardul Republicii. The income tax depart-
ment is located on the same floor and the ground floor is occupied by the
post and telegraph offices.
c. The Securitate is located in an approximately 15 by 10 meter, single-story
former private house, on the right side of Strada Dr. Ion Ratiu, coming from
the direction of the railway station.
d. The militia occupies a 25 by 20 meter, one-story building next to the town
council, on the left side of Piata Mihai Viteazul, coming from the direction
of Bulevardul Republicii.
e. The court and public prosecutor's office are located in the one-story building
in Piata Mihai Viteazul, which they occupied prior to World War II. There
is a prison in the courtyard.
f. The telephone exchange is located on the left side of Bulevardul Republicii
close to a small bridge.
g. The buildings surrounding the market, which is located between Piata Mihai
Viteazul and Strada Axente Sever, include the cooperative shops' marketing
agency, the district offices of the provincial cooperative shops' organiza-
tion, and the weights and measures department.
h. The town and district Party committees are. located in a 30 by 25 meter, one-
story building on the right side of Piata Mihai Viteazul, coming from the
direction of Bulevardul Republicii.
i. The town Communist youth committee occupies a small, one-story building
opposite the cathedral, on the left side of Bulevardul Republicii.
4. Following are details of theaters and cinemas:
a. The state theater occupies a former cinema building in Piata Mihai Viteazul,
on the corner of the road leading to the public baths. The building has
been renovated and the auditorium, which contains 400 seats, was enlarged.
There are three or four shows weekly.
b. The Maxim Gorki cinema, which was constructed in 1947 and contains about
300 seats, is located on the other side of the road leading to the public
baths, opposite the state theater.
c. The Pacea cinema, which contains 250-300 seats, occupies a former gymnasium
in a side street off Strada Dr. Ion Ratiu.
d. Another cinema is located in the outskirts of the town in the direction of
Cluj.
e. An open air cinema is located in Piata Mihai Viteazul, between the town and
district Party committee building and the state theater. The "Nicolae
Balcescu" cultural center and the editorial offices of the "Turda Noua",

the local Party newspaper, are located in the same building.
Following are details of military objectives:
a.. In 1952-1953, a concrete underground shelter,, fitted so that it can be lived
in for long periods (water and electricity supply, accumulators for use in
the event of electricity failure, ventilation and air conditioning, etc.)
was constructed in the Orthodox Cathedral gardens. The shelter cannot be
easily seen because it is covered with lawns and flowers.
b. The officers' club is located in a single-story, former private house in
Strada Dr. Ion Ratiu opposite the Securitate.
c. There are officers' living quarters opposite the state bank in Strada Republicii.
d. The military commissariat is ina single-story building in Strada Axente Sever
opposite the IRTA bus terminal.
e. A tank regiment is stationed in approximately five barracks which are located
on the right side of Calea Armatei Rosii, coming from the direction of Aiud
and on the left side of the road leading to Mihai Viteazul and Cimpeni.
f. An air force reconnaissance unit is stationed at the barracks which are lo-
cated behind the quarters of the tank regiment in Calea Armatei Rosii.
g. A small military landing ground, comprising two or three hangars, and a dirt
runway with about 20 reconnaissance aircraft, is located on the opposite side
of Calea Armatei Rosii, south of the above barracks.
h. A motorized artillery unit is also stationed in Calea Armatei Rosii, behind
the air force barracks.
i. A motorized infantry unit is stationed in two barracks immediately after the
above artillery unit.
j. The fire brigade occupies a building which is located behind the courthouse.
A new fire station is under construction on the left side of the road leading
to Cam pia-Turzii.
6. Following are details of the medical institutions:
a. The state hospital occupies two buildings, facing each other, in Strada Mihai
Viteazul:
1) A two-story building containing a gynaecological, a maternity and a
surgical ward, and an X-ray department.
2) A two-story building comprising a contagious diseases ward on the ground
floor, and an internal diseases ward on the second floor.
b. A children's hospital is housed in a small two-story building behind the above
state hospital.
c. A T.B. hospital is located on the left side of a street which runs parallel to
Traian and Dr. Ion Ratiu Streets, coming from the direction of Piata Andrei
Saguna.
d. A blood bank and the department for the prevention of epidemics are located
on the left side of Strada Libertatii, coming from the direction of the rail-
way station.

e. The adults' and children's dispensary which includes a T.B. hospital
occupies a new three-story building which was constructed after World War II.
7. Following are details of banks:
a. The state bank is located on the ground floor of the building which formerly
housed the National Bank in Strada Republicii. The investment and agricultural
banks are located on the second story of the same building.
b. The savings bank occupies two former shops on the right side of Piata Mihai
Viteazul.
8. Following are details of secondary and technical schools:
a. The co-educational secondary school No. 1 occupies a large three-story building
which was formerly the Traian boys school.
b. The No. 2 secondary school for girls is located on the left side of Strada
Dr. Ion Ratiu, going in the direction of the town center.
c. The technical school of the chemical plant, is located on the left side of
Strada Dr. Ion Ratiu, coming from the direction of Piata Andrei Saguna.
d. The technical school of the "Electro Ceramica" factory, occupies a large
three-story building at the end of Strada Mihai Viteazul, on the left side of
the road coming from the town center.

road which runs behind the district councilo
f. The technical school of the glass factory is located on the left side of the
road leading to Campia-Turzii next to approximately five workers' houses which
each contain one to four flats and were built after World War II.
9. Following are details of industrial plants.,
a. The "Silica" factory., which produces silicate bricks, is located opposite the
tank regiment barracks in Calea Armatei Rosii. The factory was to have been
constructed immediately after World War II, but although it was partially
operating in 1950, the construction work was still in progress. Its equipment
was brought from East Germany, Czechoslovakia and the USSR and it employs
300 workers in three shifts.
b. The "Proletarul" factory, which is located on the left side of Calea Armatei
Rosii coming from the town center, produces refractory materials, including
fire bricks, and employs approximately 200 workers.
c. The chemical plant, formerly the Solvay factory, is also located in Calea
Armatei Rosii behind the "Proletarul"factory. This plant, which produces for
the army, employs approximately 1.,500 workers in three shifts.
d. The "Electro-Ceramica" plant, a former porcelain factory, produces high tension
insulators and employs 400-500 workers in three shifts.
e. A glass factory, shich employs between 29500-2,800 workers in three shifts
and produces medical appliances such as jars, glasses, etc., is located
between the Campia Turzii railway line and Calea Armatei Rosii.
f. The cement factory, which was extensively enlarged, today employs approximately
4,000 workers in three shifts. In 1957-1958, a narrow-gauge railway track was

laid between the quarries and the factory in order to bring the raw materials
directly to the plant. For this purpose a new concrete bridge was constructed
at a distance of l400-500 meters from the old bridge over the River Aries. In
addition to the above, a standard-gauge track was laid from the quarries to
the railway station in order to avoid the necessity of transferring raw ma-
terial intended for the factories at Resita and Hunedoara, from the small to
standard-gauge trains. The above plants use the stone in producing refrac-
tory materials.
g. The "Hora Closca Si Crisan" pitch paper factory is located between the Silica
plant and the Campia Turzii - Turda railway line. It employs approximately
150 workers in two or three shifts.
h. A small sausage factory is located immediately after the old bridge over the
River Aries, in Strada Libertatii,
i. There are the following two natural gas transformer stations for stepping
down gas pressure.-
1) Next to the chemical plant.
2) Opposite the Electro Ceramica factory.
J, The brewery was dismantled and transferred to Cluj. Only the bottling depart-
ment remained in Turda,
10. Following are details of hotels.-
a. State Hotel No. 1 occupies a three-story corner building, which was constructed
after World War II next to the court house in Strada Mihai Viteazul. On the
ground floor there is an Espresso bar and the municipal baths, on the second
story are some 15-20 hotel rooms.
b. A new hotel and restaurant were constructed approximately one kilometer from
the public baths at the outskirts of the town.
11. Following are details of public transport.-
a. The IRTA bus terminus is located on the left side of Strada Axente Sever
coming from the direction of the market.
b. Following are the three bus routes.-
1) Turda Noua - Strada Mihai Viteazul - Piata Mihai Viteazul - Bulevardul
Republicii - Strada Republicii - Strada Libertatii - Strada Garii - Campia
Turzii. _
2) Piata Mihai Viteazul - passes along the street by the court house - Strada
Dr. Ion Ratiu - Strada Libertatii - Strada Garii - Campia Turzii.
3) Turda Noua - Strada Mihai Viteazul - Piata Mihai Viteazul - Bulevardul
Republicii - Strada Republicii - Calea Armatei Rosii - and to the barracks.
This route is occasionally extended to Mihai Viteazul village.
c. Following are inter-urban bus routes.,
1) Turda - Cluj.
2) Sibiu - Turda - Cluj and back.

12. In 1957, a large jet aircraft landing field was begun at Turda-Calarasi, on the
right side of the road coming from Aiude approximately four kilometers from Campia
Turzii. Construction still continued on the field in late 1958.
