i. A truck somewhere east of Balaklava [ 44-30, 50X1-HUM
E 33-37, heading east on the Yalta-Sevastopol highway. The truck
carried what looked like five Soviet soldiers.
J. A truck] ] 23 kilometers east of Sevastopol.
The truck was carrying Soviet sailors.
2. The following military installations were observed:
a. An installation 695 kilometers west of Moscow on the Brest-Moscow
highway. it had a frontal width of about 50X1-HUM
one-third kilometer. A low fence surrounded the area which contained
what looked like amphibious armored jeeps.
b. A military camp, 91 kilometers south of Moscow, on the east side of
the Moscow-Kursk highway. An asphalt road of medium width intersected
the highway on the east side. A sentry box was located at the entrance
to this road. The frontal width of the camp was estimated to be
about one-half kilometer.
c. A group of new buildings at the northern city limits of Simferopol,
on the east side of the Moscow-Simferopol hi&way.at'its iptersection
with an east-west highway. Military personnel with green lapels and
green piping were seen entering and leaving the buildings. The
buildings were so new that excavated earth was still seen piled up
around the gro he builds s were estimated to be about three
stories high. three or four 50X1-HUM
red flags hung along the front of the building. These flags appeared
to have a tall circular
stack appeared to be detached from the buildings.
d. A building resembling a large apartment development 92 kilometers
north of Simferopol, where a number of military personnel with blue
tabs on their uniforms were observed entering.
e. A building along the road 48 kilometers eastl of Berdichev where
military personnel were entering and leaving. TRe building was not too
large and sources thought that perhaps it was an administration building.
....--There was also an installation surrounded by a six-foot wall and about
one-half kilometer by one-half kilometer, 46 kilometers eastl of Berdichev.

was outside this installation. Military personnel wearing brown
uniforms with a greenish tinge were observed around both of these
installations. /See the sketch of these installations on page 6 J
3. The following control points and roads with "no entry" signs were observed.
a. A road just west of Zhitomir1 which was perpendicular to and inter-
sected the south side of sources' road near the top of a hill. At
the entrance of this road to source's road, there was a control point
which consisted of a pole barrier and a sentry. The road led to
some kind of installation which was indistinguishable because of
the vegetation surrounding it.
b. A dirt road heading east from the Moscow-Simferopol highway, 187
kilometers south of Moscow. There was a "no entry" sign at the
entrance of this road to the highway, and construction work could be
seen in the distance at the end of the road.

c. A dirt road with a "no entry" sign, 40 kilometers west of Moscow,
heading south from the Moscow-Minsk highway. A jeep filled with
soldiers was seen coming out of -t"18 road. The road with the
"no entry" sign branched off into two separate roads a few hundred
feet from the highway.
d. A control point consisting of a pole barrier across a road which
intersected sources' route from Yalta to Sevastopol. The control
point was about 75 feet down the IvMid from the higbwayF_

exact location of the control point. Just prior to reaching this
control point, a sign pointing toward the road on which
the control point was located which said "Balaklava, five kilometers."
There was a sentry box with a uniformed sentry at the control point.

sign near the entrance to the road on which the control point was
located said "Borbidden Zone", and another one said "Otyead" fexi7.
The road appeared to be either a dirt or gravel road of medium width.

be checking a bicycle rider through the Aoint. No vehiclesor any
other activity were noticed around the control point.
4+. Other roads.
a. A paved road 159 kilometers west of Kharkov which headed north from
the Kharkov-Kiev highway to an undetermined point.
b. A paved road 112 kilometers west of Moscow which headed south from
the Moscow-Minsk highway.
c. A dirt road 59u kilometers south of Moscow which headed east from
the Moscow-Simferopol highway into a forest. Perforated concrete
blocks about three feet wide and eight feet long were piled up along
this road.

d. What looked like a black top road running over hilly country to a
group of three white buildings, approximately five kilometers east
of Sevastopol and about two kilometers north of F___-Iroute from 50X1-HUM
Yalta to Sevastopol.
5. The following power lines and step-down stations were observed:
a. Power lines with 14+ insulators between 32 and 33 kilometers west of
Kiev, near the Kiev-Zhitomir highway.
b. A power line with eight skirts Zinsulator], ?)otweefl.123. andt..l24..-
kil;mete'ri' west of Moscow, on the Moscow-Minsk highway. ? j line
crossed the highway at a 60-degree angle.
c. A power line with 12 to 14 skirts 13 kilometers south of Moscow near
the Moscow-Simferopol highway.
d. A power line with 12 insulators, between 197 and 198 kilometers south
of Moscow on the Moscow-Simferopol highway. The line crossed the road
at a 75-degree angle.
e. Power lines with fifteen insulators, 371 kilometers north of Simferopol,
near. the Moscow-Simferopol highway.
f. A power step-dbwn station 622 kilometers west of Alupka /17 44-25,
E 34-327 near the Yalta-Sevastopol highway.
g. A power line 81 kilometers west of Alupka near the Yalta-Sevastopol
highway. The line ran parallel to the highway along the south side until
the highway reached the mountains to the west.

h. A power step-down station 99 kilometers west of Alupka near the
Yalta-Sevastopol highway.
6. The following towers were observed:
a. A tower which looked like an airport control tower, approximate)
lio`-kilometers east of Sevastopol along the north side of 50X1-HUM
route from Yalta to Sevastopol. The tower was at the top of a bluff
which was estimated to be abbot 70 feet high, and was embedded in
the bluff. Most of the visible portion of the tower consisted of
glass. The glass dome of the tower appeared to be 30 feet in
diameter with a center height of ten feet. 50X1-HUM

high, was of concrete and included a door and window. See the

7. The following airfields were observed:
a. A civil airfield on the north side of the highway just before
Sevastopol ft-he Sevastopol Airfiel7. The only aircraft
observed on this field were antiquated khaki-colored biplanes.
b. A small aiffield in Zaporozhye N 46-57, E 35-07. Small aircraft
resembling US L-5.'s were the only aircraft observed on the field.
8. The following miscellaneous observations were also made:
a. A row of triangular markers in an empty field 90 kilometers north of
Simferopol on the east side of the Moscow-Simferopol highway. The
markers were marked with diagonal lines similar to aircraft landing
markers.
b. A tank farm 91 kilometers north of Simferopol. Tanks were lying in a
horizontal position and were very close together compared to US
tank farms.
c. A bulldozed area of about one-half acre, 48 kilometers south of
Moscow.
d. Several trailer cabs, all of which had two axles in the back, entering
a large crossroads on the Minsk-Moscow highway, 44 kilometers west of
Moscow. The cabs entered the intersection on a paved road from the
south, and did not have trailers attached.
e. A concrete block silo-type building 61 kilometers south of Moscow on
the west side of the Moscow-Simferopol highway. There were many holes
in the side of the building.
f. A great amount of construction work in the village of Chekhov LN 55-09,
E 37-277, 74 kilometers south of Moscow. new apartment
buildings were being constructed.

g. A moderate amount of military traffic along the Yalta-Sevastopol
highway. No guided missile indicators of any kind were observed.
at a roximately N 44-31, E 33-41 on the Yalta-
Sevastopol highway, a loud roar which sounded something
like a jet engine. The sound lasted about 10 to 15 seconds
The sound seemed to be coming from the northeast.
