Details have been received of the premises, syllabus, equipment, teaching staff'and senior students of the Aeronautics Department of Dresden Technical Institute, known by the 0 name "Abteilung Leichtbau, Fakultaet fuer 25X1 Maschinenbau" (Light Construction Section, Faculty of Machine Construction). 2. The Aeronautics Department is situated at Dresden A16, Duererstr 24. The promises house administrative offices, institutes, lecture halls and accomo- dations for about 140 students, and, in addition, there is a separate technical subdivision in the Dresden Hygienemuseum (Hygiene Museum). There are at present about 150 students. 3. The syllabus for the 3rd, 5th and 7th terms is as follows: d t? : general machine design and construction (in the premises of the Technical Institute, Mommeenetr.), and two hours per week of voluntary general flying instruction (in the Light Construction section). 5th termmt general machine design and construction, with emphasis on motive power, and two hours per week general flying instruction (the latter and two hours per week instruction on vibration (Schwing- ungslehre) in the Light Construction Section, the rest in the Technical Institute). 7th term; aircraft design and construction (mathematics in the Inorganic Chemistry Institute of the Technical Institute, everything else in the Light Construction Section). A typical weekle program for the 7th term course is indicated in Annex 1. Professors Mueller and Lendmann (see paragraph 6), speaking to the 7th term 0 . f in mid-December 1953, expressed the view that three further terms would be required to complete the training. OFFICIALS ONLY 4. On 31 December 1953, the Aeronautics Department had, in its subdivision at the Hygiene Museum, a Patriot single-seater glider built by Nagema of Bad Schmiedeberg. It was learned on 22 December.1953 that a Sokol singl.e- engined, 3-Yseater aircraft with . .. retractable undercarriage, was to be delivered to the Institute in January 1954 at a price of between 18,000 and 20,000 DM East. Initially this would be kept at Leipzig airfield; negotiations were believed to be going on between the State Secretariat for Higher Education and the Soviet Occupation Authorities with a view to making Klotzsche airfield near Dresden available to the Institute. 5. The staff instructing 7th term students includes& (a) Prof. Dr. Richter (fnu), Dr. Ing., of the Aerodynamics Institute; of the Light Construction Section (b) Prof. Rudolf Mueller, Dipl. Ing., of the Institute for Instruction in Tensile Strengths Institute fuer Festigkeitslehre)o deputy chief of the (c) (d) Prof. Herman Landmann, Dipl. Ing., a eliding instructor in the GSP Prof. Hermann, Goecke. Ditil. Ins (a) Two professors whose names are not yet known. An additional lecturer was expected on 15 January 1954, 6. The eight 7th term students, whose names appear in Annex 2, attend the same lectures and do their practical work in two groups of four. With the exception ofcae man of 32, their ages range from 22 to 24. The older man was apprenticed to Eeinkels in Rostock, after an elementary education, served in the Luftwaffe, and matriculated in the Workers and Peasants Faculty of Rostock University after the war, 7. All the institutes of the Light Construction Section are believed to have research assignments. 8. Professors Mueller and Landmann have suggested that if there are no vacancies for the 7th term students in industry, they will be retained at the Institute as assistants. In November 1953, after a three day visit to the State Secretariat for Higher Education, Professors Mueller and Landmann indicated that the Light Construction Section would become an independez institute early in 1954.
