The principal Communists in rinagar are:* Bedi (fuu) and his European wif. e, Frieda = 25X1 X Ghulam flohammed 3 diq,, Kashmir Development Minister = 25X1 X Mohammed Afzal Beg, Kashmir Revenue Minister Muhidd in Kara (aka Karra, Kurra), a lawyer = 25X 1 X Dhanwantri, a Conaunist terrorist.** Dhanvantri (fnu), a terrorist who arrived in Kashmir in 1947, presumably from the Punjab, works closely with the Bedis' and with & diq.*** They have established a Communist bookshop in Srinagar, which publishes the Communist-oriented vernacular newspapers Eaor, ftlift, and BE & 'T'hrough dupes and trusted agents, these leaders penetrate and attempt to control various civic and cultural organizations, and to disrupt those which they cannot capture. They also have a cadre of trusted students who work to form pro-Communist groups-in various schools and colleges in Kashmir., Their line appeals to the underprivileged Kashmiri students; and they are gaining converts at an alarming rate. Most of the Communist student workers are from poor families Their education is being paid for by the Commmrnists, with allowances ranging from Re.. 100 to 200 per month. an addition, the Communists give away thousands of rupees worth of literature per month.**** This literature is delivered to the schools through student contacts, and is distributed throughout Srinagar and the surrounding villages by young boys on bicycles. Last summer some Czech men and women from Delhi came to Kashmir. They were in regular contact with the Cormunist Party leaders these.***** One D.
