1. American and ROOK prisoners of war were seen on a Pyongyang street on
27 August. There is rumor current among North Korean troops in
Pyongyang that UN prisoners of war are being held in the former
regimental camp of the NKPA 1 Division at Kaechon (12558, 39-40)-
2. After mid-July., most North Korean troops occupying Seoul had 10,000
to 20,,000 yen each on their persons. There was a rumor among Seoul
citizens that this currency was supplied from bank accounts frozen
by order of the NKPA authorities. When Seoul shops were ordered
re-opened, the troops purchased most of the precious metals and
other small valuable commodities. Seoul citizens believe that the
North Korean troops were directed on 12 September to purchase all
such commodities remaining on the market.
