I Next Review Date: 2008 25X1X 1. Soviet troops were seen in every major town along the Brest Litovsk-Poznan-Frankfurt/Oder line between 5 and 3 July 1950. This was particularly noticeable singe it was the first time Soviet troops had been observed there. No assembly of empty rolling stock or weapons was observed. 2. All young Poles have been inducted into the army since the end of June 1950, according to a Polish pilot, ** 25X1A `? Similar observations were made in Kutno where about 200 Soviet soldiers were located in early June 19509 and in Lodz where 00 to 400 Soviet soldiers were seen in 25X1A late June 1350, See . The fact that neither empty rolling stock nor weapons, presumably heavy weapons, were observed indicates that the Soviet troops in major towns along the important Brest Litovsk-Poznan - Frankfurt/ Oder transit line may have been stationed there for security 25X1A* r o s?n . The induction of all young Poles since the end o June 1950 would be tantamount to a mobilization of the Polish Army. There are, however, no further indicationsto this effect:. Routine inductions into the Polish Army are effected in the fall. There were several excertions to this rule in 1948 and 1949 when conscriptions were also effected in the spring. Inductions into the Border Guard Corps (VJOP) are usually carried out in mid-June, and it is therefore considered possible that the information refers to conscripts for service with the WOP CONFIDENTIAL: .00 CLASSIFICATION .
