Headquarters of the International Cominform Brigade in Hungary is located in
Bakony, Soviet General Simkov commanding.
2n. Composition of the Brigade is as foilowss
Staff Headquarters,
8 infantry battalions.
2 paratrooper battalions.
2 heavy machine gun battalions,
14 batteries of varied artillery weapons.
2 anti-tank companies.
3 Commando-type assault companies,,
2 radio telegraph (telephone) companies.,
3 air squadrons. (At present one squadron has only 8 "JAT" pursuit planes,
the other has 5 "JAT1P transport planes, and the other only 2 light bombers
of the "JILT" model, The units were only given these planes for the purpose
of training on the Tapolca Airfield.)
I transportation battalion with approximately 150-200 automobiles of various
capacities.
1 pioneer battalion.
1 police battalion.
1 division field hospital.
3. The strength of the brigade is approximately 20,000 men, and it is planned to
Increase this to 25,000.. All armament and equipment is of Soviet manufacture
and very modern. The brigade is so armed and equipped that it can operate
as an independent tactical unit.
4. The men receive special rations which are known as the "Voroshilov meal"a and
are quartered partly in private homes in Bakony and partly in newly constructed
barracks, The city itself is isolated, and a special permit signed by the
lomnmanding General imkov is needed to enter the city,
5f, Units are trained in their specialties with the ultimate aim of making them
capable of independent action. Special attention is devoted to training for
sabotage activities of all types and to political propaganda training related
to conditions in the future theatres of action. Yugoslavs attached to the Brigade
are being separately instructed regarding the area of their future activity.
Their instructors are Yugoslav Comirform (partisan) officers who have attended
