In , the anti-Government factions in the Thai Parliament were
capable of mustering enou.;h votes to defeat the Phibul Government, Des-
pite their diversity of interest, they were in sufficient agreement to take
this step, but feared that Phibul would use the military to override the
Parliamentary threat and maintain his Government in power.
