SUPPLEMENT TO
On 1 J u l y 1950, repairs were started on the Hoehan ( .L,4 ) airport near Amoy.
Labor union headquarters and the Chinese Communists in Amoy have been recruit-
ing civilian laborers from the area for this work. The daily working hours
are 5 to 8 a.m. and 4 to 8 p.m. The chief engineer on this repair work is the
commander of a Chinese Communist engineer regiment; he is assisted by 8 engi-
neers from Chekiang Province and 20 graduates in civil engineering from Amoy
Universiity. The runways are being made cross-shaped, suitable for B-25 type
planes.
2. BY 5 Ault, repairs on the Ihsu ( f , ) airfield in the Foochow district
were almost completed. The airport is 12 by 5 kilometers, with a runway 1,500
by 500 meters. There is a new hanger at the north end of the runway, and a
new highway at the base of a small hill at the north end of the airport,019
3. The construction of a runway at Chienou (118-19, 27-04) to about 80 percent
completed. The airport has about 11 revetments and one taxiway,
4. From 7 to 9 August, about 50,000 unidentified Chinese Communist troops and the
13 Regiment, 3 Field Army, arrived in the T?ungan (11810, 2444)
and Amoy areas from Tungt?ai (118-53, 25-47) via the Foochow-Amoy highway.
The artillery of this regiment is 105 mm. About 10,000 Chinese Communist
troops are stationed at Huian (118-48, 25.03), and the local population has
been ordered to provide ballets and food for 60,000 troops.
