and at the Government 't'obacco Monopoly Factory, the labor front in Thailand
was gene~rall; ~ peaceful..
2, At the Municipal Dock. Thai and Chinese workers are in disagreement over
wage allowances which vary with nationality., The City of Bangkok has also
ordered an increased levy on incon..ng barges which has tended to increase
the existing ill feeling. Poora Bunnag, the representative of the
Municipality, has conferred 't; - . ~:, : f be c .^" ~.i and Chinese
unions without reach:in,; a satisfactory settlement. The situation is
sufficiently serious to possibly lead to an outbreak of violence.
.The Government Tobacco Monopoly. Factory workers have voted to extend
their lunch hour. This ac', 'ion is in protest against a management order
which prohibits rest periods longer than 15 minutes. The factory
management, has issued only one rest permit card for every three
employees assigned to a rolling ina.chine. This insures the services of
at least two laborers on a machine at all timeso No settlement of tha
dispute at the L'actory has yet been reached,
