The Thai Government has recalled permission for the shipment of Thai rice destined for Communist China.* At the same time, the Govern:ent has cancelled the shipping permits of the Chamru Co., Ltd.** Apparently, Phibul is afraid of United States reaction, were his connections with the shipments to Communist China to become known. 25X1A China 2. Reaction of Bangkok Chinese to Situation in Korea 215X1 A. Chinese in Bangkok feel that because of the Korean situation, life in Thai- land will become more difficult, and that sabotage may break out. Considerable protest has been heard among Chinese in the coffee shops against the American imperialist attitude toward Korea. Many of them be- lieve that the South Koreans started the fighting, omtnent. For previous information on the shipment of Thai 25X1 A rice to Communist China 25X1,?5X1 A 25X1A Commnt. May 1950, reports that the Chamru Co., Ltd., directed by Tiengsieng Kanasut, is the second largest company shipping rice'to Macao. This company is mainly instrumental in selling export permits as Tiengsieng has considerable influence among high ranking government officials. Furthermore, he is able to buy half his rice with pounds or dollars.
