1. The Union of .;orking Youth (U=) has subscribed one million lei for the
International 3o1idarity Fund, to be used to pay the expenses of delegates
from "colonial and dependent countries" at the Congress of the International
Union of Students in Frague in August 1950.
2. Nathan Dag, a young Norwegian Communist who attended the fifth congress of
the Union-of Communist Youth of Israel, informed the Rumanian charge d1affaires
in Tel Aviv, Paul Davidovici, at the conclusion of the congress that he was
unable to pay for his return trip. Dag was brought to Constan~a on the
"Transylvania", put up at the Hotel Athenee in Bucharest, and given first-
class rail transportation to the Rumanian frontier.
3. At the present time the ;orld Federation of Democratic Youth is not pressing
the Union of ;corking Youth to send a second delegate to Paris, apparently
because the Jorld Federation believes that it may have to move to Prague.
The Rumanian delegate to the world Federation of Democratic Youth, lance
"_oscou, left France clandestinely for Bucharest and returned to saris in the
same manner during January 1950.
4. Ne_mbers of the Union of ~:orking Youth have begun to receive by mail the
Brazilian Information Bulletin. This publication, which carries no heading,
registration or signature, is sent in yellow envelopes addressed by hand.

Leclerc...iritten in excellent French, the Bulletin contains information
from the Brazilian Communist prees.

5. Three years ago it was possible to buy Students of the ,orid, the publication
of the International Union of Students, in the bookstores of Bucharest. At
the present time, however, issues'of this publication are held by the Central
Committee of the Rumanian .orkers }arty which purchases a sizeable number
without any intention of permitting their circulation in the country. This
and other publications of international youth organizations are not permitted
to circulate because the }arty authorities do not consider them politically
suitable for Rumanian youth. For exa;aple, photographs of the reconstruction
of Stalingrad showing poorly dressed workers using picks which were prepared

edition of Youth of the t:orld, the organ of the .orld Federation of Democratic
Youth, but the third issue was killed by the censorship. The authorities were
then faced with the problem of handling the next issue which would contain the
statement of Dolores Ube.rruri, "'We shall have a Spanish Spain under Spaniards."
The Union of :forking Youth has now received written permission to cut, change,
or introduce new material into the Rumanian edition of Youth of the '.orld.
6. Returning from Budapest via Rumania in Autumn 1949, Abraham Glaser, a Jew,
and Channa .:bucha.nna, an Arab, both of whom are Communists, informed the
Rumanian authorities that they were expecting; a gift fro: Hungary. Several
days later the Hungarian Legation in Bucharest received five cases weighing
100 kilograms each and containing printing, equipment and type. This material
was Given to the Camrmulists of Israel for propaganda work by the Hungarian
Communists. On his arrival at Haifa, Glaser informed the authorities that
the cases belonged to the Rumanian Legation and they were permitted to enter
the country without inspection.
7. Representatives of Rumanian youth sent to the Berlin youth rally in late
-ay 1950 were carefully checked by the Rumanian authorities. The Central
Committee of the Union of :dorkinF; Youth proposed fifteen representatives
to the Central Committee of the Rumanian lorkers Party, which reduced the
number to nine. The nine representatives were as follows:
a. Vasile Pu at, member of the Central Co.mu'ttee, Union of 'corking Youth,
chief of he delegation.
b. Cornelia Fi.lipa, member of the Central Conunittee, Union of Working Youth.
c. Marcel Breazu ( Jewish), 38 years of age, chief e4 tor of Set eia,
professor of philosophy.
d. Anton Pilash abian 18 z ?
(Sw ), years of age, -, ,e, employed at the Resita plant,
holder of the Order of Labor.
e. Judith Zaharia (Jewish), 20 years of age, student at the Faculty of
Fedagogy, University of Bucharest; her father is medical chief of the
hospital of the ?'inistry of Interior and a member of the Central Committee
of the Rumanian Workers ;'arty.
f. Maria Marian, student at the Institute of Economic Sciences and
Planning (ISFP).
g. Lihail Teorsac, mechanic, "responsible" for sport in the Bucharest
Pioneers organization,
h. Badea Vglcea, secretary of Section III (Blue), Bucharest organization of
Union of .'4orking Youth.
i. Vasile Marin, baker, secretary of the 1Frahova organization of the Union
of working Youth.
iM the representatives, with the exception of Judith Zaharia, are members of
the Rumanian .corkers Party. Laharia is a member of the Union of Co;xnau ist
Youth and the -Irogressive Youth. M .:aria Marian was no poor that it was
necessary to outfit her from head to foot in order to avoid giving a poor
impression of socialism in :Rumania.
8. The Committee for Physical Culture and Sport (CCFS) proposed nineteen members
of a sports team which was reduced to the following twelve:
a. Jean Brucker, major at ;Ministry of Interior.

and Chiose to leave the train. V'hen the group reached Cluj it was informed
that none of the members vaould be permitted to leave the country. The State
Security h?.d decided that none of the group had been sufficiently checked to

9. The Union of ':Working Youth was to ~e represented at the meeting of the
1ceeutivo Committee of the World Federation of Youth, to be held in Berlin,
by Paul Luca Cornea and Gheorghe Florescu, approxi::ately 40 years of age, a
typo rapher. Both Cornea and Florescu are secretaries of the Central Committee
of the Union of '.~orking Youth.
