On 1) April 1950, the "Day of International. Solidarity with the Anti- Franco Youth" , the Union of Working Youth (UTM) subscribed 500,000 lei. for the support, of the Republican Youth and pledged gifts of food, medicines and clrthin'. It. On 15 August 1950, the World Congress of UIE Yei1-1. open in Prague. A meeting of ItalLian and French youth "to fight for peace", will be field in Nice. Their living conditions are described as inhuman. Their canteen is so filthy that a majority of the are ill with stomach ailments. These students receive a monthly stipend of 1,500 lei; they are unable to live on this sum and must sell their clothing in order to exist. Rumanian students studying on scholarships in Hungary receive the equivalent of y, 000 lei monthly.
