SUPPLEMENT TO
1. Beakulen is under the jurisdiction of a Tentera Nasional Indonesia (TN!)
bri a.de commanded by Lt. Ccl. Berl tan. Berltarn is twenty-three yesrs old
and a native of 'Jana, in the Benksilen Residency. The town is occ=1ed by
a battalion from this brigade, which is commanded by ITewewi, a twenty-two
year old major in the . T,1.
2. The R e0rant of Benkulen, Marusman, is a graduate of the Dutch Middlebare
Oplei4to,a School Voor Irulandsche Ambtenaren (Native civil Officers'
School's) and is said to be anti-Beeublic; however, he was forced to remain

3. The airfield At Benkulen is about eight kilometers south of the city at
Yekan Saptu. It?was built by the Javanese in 1943-1944.
4. The Pesindo has a branch at Benkulen and an estimated 1,000 members.

president, who was formerly a teacher in the local Taman Stews school.

the rate of about eight kilograms a year. The Hedjang?-Lebong mines have
been closed.
