1. The border in the area of Kisiudi is guarded b'- an elaborate combina-
tion of fences, wc:.tch towers., and flares.
2. There are watchtowers abo..t every 2 kilo:aettrs. Fences, approximately
h meters high. extend frota one tower to a 'utller and are designed to
form a wide "V" with the open part of the '9V" on the ' Russian side.
At the apex of the 'V" are .3 or !t barbed wires stretching horizontally.
T?he rest of the w 'ea in the fence are electrically' connected in such
a way t._at the average contact will cause the explosion of rocket fl :.-es
located about 2 meters away fro::. tue outside of the fence.
3. When the guards on duty in the watchtower or on r atrol see the flares
they spray the illuminated area with r ,.chine gun fire.. The watch.
towers are not equ-F I,ped with .floo41i;;htsw
It. The area on each side of the fence is i1o?4hed weekly, enabling the
patrols to observe fresh tracks an=; take necessary action in case
of an es:.aoe.
