1. Action Requested: None. This is background information for your
appearance at the 85th Submarine Ball, Saturday, 13 April, at the Marriott
Crystal Gateway Hotel, 1700 Jefferson Davis Highway, in Arlington. The
reception and banquet will be from 7:00 to 10:30 p.m., followed by dancing
from 10:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. The entrance is on Eads Street between 15th and
18th Streets, and the telephone number is 920-3230.
? Arrangements: You and Mrs. Casey are requested to be at the
main entrance of the hotel at approximately 8:00 p.m. or a

which is in the room adjacent to the ballroom. A receiving
line is not planned. The dinner seating in the ballroom will
begin at 8:20 p.m., followed by the welcome, invocation, and

SUBJECT: Address to the 85th Anniversary Submarine Ball
? Audience: Approximately 475 naval officers -- including 20
flag officers -- and wives and a few civilians affiliated with
the submarine force will make up the audience. Neither
members of the press nor foreign nationals will be present.
However, THE NAVY TIMES' photographer will be taking still
photographs for that publication.
? Back round on the 85th Anniversary Submarine Ball: According
to the naval officer, the evening to celebrate their 85th year
of service will be a convivial, relaxed affair. Customarily,
high-ranking naval officers address the group. Last year
Chief of Naval Operations Admiral James D. Watkins was the
keynote speaker, and former CIA Director Admiral Raborn also
spoke to this group in the past.
