Audience: Approximately 475 naval officers -- including 20 flag officers -- and wives and a few civilians affiliated with the submarine force will make up the audience. Neither members of the press nor foreign nationals will be present. However, THE NAVY TIMES' photographer will be taking still photographs for that publication. ? Back round on the 85th Anniversary Submarine Ball: According to the naval officer, the evening to celebrate their 85th year of service will be a convivial, relaxed affair. Customarily, high-ranking naval officers address the group. Last year Chief of Naval Operations Admiral James D. Watkins was the keynote speaker, and former CIA Director Admiral Raborn also spoke to this group in the past.
