This report contains information on the Myszkow Metallurgical Works 50X1-H U M
in MYSZKOW, Poland. information concerned the steel
foundry installation and deacri tion of the plant layout anal terrain with sketches
of both. some information on the production and 50X1-H U M
expansion, a or orce, source o raw materials,_and background of the factory.
1. Backeround
The l~fyszkow Metallurgical Works was a new steel foundry in MYSZKOW (N50-
35, E19-21)(UTM CB-824045}, Poland which was completed in 1955 (see Annex A for
pinpoint location). It was established to produce assemblies for the railway
industry specifically for steam engines and railroad cars..The project~w~s~-~
handled by the Special Projects Bureau (Biuro Projektow Budownictwa Specjalnego),
now known as the Investment Supply and Designing Bureau (Biuro Projektowania i
Dostaw Inwestycyjnych). 1?
The total cost of the factory was 300,000,000 zlotys according to price 50X1-H U M
levels of 1955 (w cenach 1955)? Included in that figure was 120,000,000 zlotys
for the Durchase and installation of equipment.
2. Production and Expansion

late .1958 with the installation of two new ,gas furnaces with capacities of 15 tons
(marteny gazowe - 15 tonowe).
3. Labor Force

In 1956, the total labor force was 800, about one-third of the planned
number.. By 1963, however, it was Tanned to employ 2500 workers, of whom about
10 percent were to be women. the following breakdown of the planned 50X1-H U M
2500 employees: about 200 were to b~ engineers, technicians,.. and foremen; 250
were to be administrative personnel; 1500 were to be skilled and semiskilled laborers;

4. Source of Raw Mater is
All raw materials were shipped to the factoi^y by rail from the S'ileaian
district of Poland. With the exception oiA iron ore9 which was imported from the
USSR; Chime and all of the foundry raw materials were domestic - sand.
clays coke9 limes and oil.
5. The Steel k'oundr;~ (see Annex B)
The capac~,ty of the steel foundry in 1956 was 24+9000 tone yearly. It was
located in a large red 5rick building of steel constructions about 150 by 58 by
15 m. The building was very modern in appearar~.ce and well 1i.ghted because of the
latticework web of window panes covering nearly the entire northern and southern
walls. There were box type skylights on the roof of the center section of the
building, A railx?oad spur entered the building at the southwestern corner and ran
nearly the full length of the foundry through the foundry materials storage area.
There were two 30-m smokestacks at the southeast end of the building.
Within the foundry building were located the following five sectionso
the foundry materials storage sections the smelting sections mass mixing section,
core castin sections and the casting section (see Annex B for internal layout of
the f oundry~ o
The foundry was equipped with two electric furnaces with 6`ton capacities,
and two gas marten type furnaces with capacities of 15 tons were to have been
installed b late 195g.

6. Plant La.vout and Description (see Annex C)
The factory terrain was open and flat witk~ fiery few trees and shrubs. The
total area of the terrain was 158000 sq m (300 by 500 m). It~was enclosed_completel..y
on three sideso the north side by a brick wall about 2 m highs and the east and
south sides by a heavy wire fence about 2 m high. ,The west side was only partially
enclosed by a heavy wire fence (see Annex C). The buildings were well dispersed;
the closest buildings (number 7 and 8 on Annex C) were separated by /~,0 m.
The factory was on the local MY'SZI~OW water net and
had no alternate water supply.

facility somewhere in Silesia where ore was being .stockpiled in an attempt to
stabilize the erratic flow of ore to foundries caused b spasmodic import shipments
from the USSR and China,
