2. An increase above the normal in the vole of Soviet transports passing
through the FRANKFURT/Oder area in February 1959 was not maintained in March, when
traffic reverted to normal.
3. During the first fortnight of March, however, there was a considerable
increase above normal in the volume of Soviet troops and equipm;:nt loaded in
FRt?,NKFURT/0der (ex transit barracks)[ -iihich wore then attached, 4 or 6 25X1
at a time, to scheduled goods trains running to various destinations in East
Germany. Thcr3 have always been isolated instances of this in th.: past, but this
month has shown a remarkable increase in such traffic.
4. The numbers held in RBA 7 at the disposal of the Soviet authori- 25X1
ties has remained constant in recent months.
