The Soviet '.?nion possesses vast natural resources of variou ' tncis
of mineral fuels and Is a great oil-producing Statu.
The discovery of a great number of oil-boating fields along the
Volga, the Urals and in other legions of the. country has considerably
changed the geographical distribution of the oil resources ana has
also paved the way for the foundation of new large oil centres
M the Tatar, Bashkir and Kuibyshev regions, and each of then taken
separately produces more oil than the world -known Baku region
Control Figures for the Economic Development of the USSI for 1959-
1965 provide for the further increase of crude oil output and volume
of refining operations which will sharply robe the exporting capacity
of the Soviet Union.

COAL-TAR BENZOL
Coal-tar benzol is used in many orcnches of Industry mainly as raw
material for manufacturing of dyes and lacquers, styrene and synthetic
phenol, alkylates as well as a solvent In producing aviation oils.
Commercial benzol is to answer the requirements of high purity which Is
achieved by narrow limits of boiling pointsi of absence of unsaturated
hydrocarbons the contents of which Is controlled by the bromine numberf
as well as of !?~w sulphur content and sulphur compawnc?:~.
